18th Century Fusee Verge Striking Bracket Clock

The images below are showing the restoration of a late 18th Century fusee verge striking bracket clock by Watkins, Snow Hill, London . The work involved a complete repair including dial, movement, and case. This beautiful clock features an engraved back-plate often found in these types of clock. Previous careless repairs (not by our clockmakers) had to be corrected by re-fitting the bushes correctly to the back-plate. Also necessary was the re-bushing of one of the mainspring barrels and the making of a new stud for the strike work. Much work had to be done and once the dial had been re-silvered and the case repaired by Antique Renovations (with whom we co-work), the clock was restored to its former glory and delivered back to its proud owners.

Painted Dial longcase clock movement by David Tainsh

8 day painted dial longcase clock movement by David Tainsh - Crieff (Scotland) showing the movement before and after restoration . The movement would first be dismantled, then cleaned thoroughly prior to re-bushing and other repairs. A new month wheel was made as the old one was suffering from badly damaged teeth.

Brass dial longcase clock - James Kenway -
Bridport Circa 1790

30 hour brass dial longcase clock - James Kenway-Bridport circa 1790. We have fully restored this clock throughout including movement, dial and case. The brass dial had been painted black in places and the movement was terrible. The clock is now fully working and fitted with a new great wheel to the strike side and a new locking plate detent and has had numerous bushes fitted and the escapement overhauled. The walnut case has been restored by our cabinet maker Stephen Gartland of Antique Renovations.

Edwardian Tubular Bell Musical Chiming Longcase Clock

Restoration of an Edwardian tubular bell musical chiming longcase clock. These enormous clocks were always made to the best quality and were often in excess of 8ft tall - this particular example has no maker's name but nonetheless is outstandingly well made with dead-beat escapement and maintaining power, silent gathering pallets and a choice of Whittington and Westminster chimes on the large suspended tubular bells. One picture shows the rather neglected state of the movement prior to full restoration which involved fully dismantling every part and many hours of hand cleaning as well as mechanical repairs.
